Recruitment over Christmas | If this is their idea of Christmas, I gotta be here for New Year
Traditionally, it is said, Christmas is a slow time for recruitment with companies taking extended leave in the hinterland between Christmas and New Year and things not really picking up until the beginning of January. It is true that January sees a peak with many jobseekers entering the market, but it would be a mistake to discount December as a great time to be active.
For one, you stand a chance of standing out from the crowd, with many future job seekers choosing to wait until January when everyone else will be getting active too. Beat the inevitable 2022 rush and use this time wisely. You may have some free time yourself and you can use this to your advantage; update your LinkedIn profile and polish your CV ready to get yourself ahead of the game.
We don’t stop recruiting because of Christmas and whilst some recruiters do, this is an excellent time to speak with candidates as they may be on holiday days and more available to discuss the next exciting move in their career. By having these conversations now, you will be at the top of the pile when hiring managers start looking at shortlists of candidates for open jobs. Hiring budgets are often reset for the New Year and this is your opportunity to be first in line; don’t miss it!
The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear… Yes, this is a quote from Elf, but it is an excellent way to think of your job seeking. Christmas is a great time to get yourself onto the job market, take advantage of other people’s apathy and get yourself in (north) pole position for 2022.
We love Elf’s positive attitude and taking inspiration over the festive period can really impact the good vibes our candidates get. I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favourite. And at the YTS office, we will be sticking to the four main food groups: Candy, Candy Canes, Candy Corns, and Syrup.

We’re still here and very much active and you should be too!
